Kim Johnson has been drawing ever since she could hold a pencil. She remembers one night, when she was 4, painting a pattern on her mother's sheets with food coloring. Ever since then drawing has been a part of her life, and it should be expected, she comes from a long line of artists. Her Great Great Aunt Jadi Bibily, who lived to be 102, was a famous miniature painter on ivory. Some of her more famous models were Elizabeth Taylor and The Duke of Windsor. Her Great Aunt Rita Greve was an accomplished sculptor in bronze and stone castings.
Kim graduated from George Brown College in Toronto Canada for Graphic Design and Kendall College of Art & Design in Grand Rapids MI for Illustration. She has worked in the art industry since graduating college with experience in graphic design, art direction, print production and children's educational publishing. Her love of children's books and reading led her to start writing and illustrating her own children's stories. Other than illustrating, Kim is self-taught in sewing, fabric design and photography. She has shown her photographs in galleries and runs two on-line shops which sell her original fabric designs and eco-friendly pillows for kids. In fact, one of her pillow designs was featured in a segment on the Today Show and showcased in several design magazines.
Her first trade publication, Dahlia Jean, The Jungle Queen, was just released this spring. She has other projects in the works, including an animated original story and a series of children's stories in APP form. In her spare time Kim loves to search through vintage shops and estate sales....who knows, that could be her next children's book!
